Victory Garden event

Thursday, May 11, 6pm – Sonoma County Museum – Special Event

War gardening, or victory gardens, was first promoted in WWI, as a means for people to produce more food and consume less, leaving the bulk of the country’s harvests available for shipping to the troops and to Europe. Citizens were encouraged to grow food on all unused land, including parks, schools, backyards and vacant lots.

Growing your own vegetables has recently gained in popularity, and there are many 21st century techniques and tools for the home gardeners. In this presentation Cynthia Leung will explore many of the new available methods from seed-starting to harvest for the home gardener and will give her own personal take on growing vegetables in a small space. Included are recipes for making your own potting soil and your own fertilizer mixes, as well as time-saving and organic techniques.
