Fire on Klute Street
Thursday night there was a fire in one of the apartment structures on Klute Street that sadly displaced 8 people. Luckily, no one was hurt. This would be an excellent time to check the batteries in your smoke alarms. Here’s the Fire Department’s Facebook post:
Structure Fire Involving Apartments and Vehicles – Klute Street* – Shortly before 1am this morning, 4 Engines, 1 Ladder Truck, 1 Chief Officer and 1 Fire Investigator responded to Klute Street for a report of a motorcycle burning in the parking area at 422 Klute Street. The first fire department unit arrived within 5 minutes and found three cars and a motorcycle burning in the carport of a two story 4-unit apartment building. The fire was an immediate threat to three living units above the fire and one living unit on the first floor adjacent to the carport. The fire also created a minor threat to an adjacent apartment building next door.
The four apartments of the building were occupied when the fire was reported. All occupants safely evacuated their homes prior to fire department arrival. The fire was controlled in 25 minutes. It destroyed all the vehicles and several storage areas for the residents located in the rear of the carport. It also caused moderate fire damage to one apartment above the fire and moderate smoke damage to all four units. Eight people have been temporarily displaced due to the incident. Three of the eight people displaced are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. The five others opted to stay with friends or family.
The cause of the incident is not known at this time and is under investigation by Santa Rosa Fire Department and Santa Rosa Police Department investigators.
