OPENING RECEPTION: MEXICAN PHOTOGRAPHERS AND ARTISTRY IN WOOD

September 28, 6-8pm – Sonoma County Museum, 425 7th Street

Join us for a lively music and wine reception of two new exhibitions: San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s Mexican Photographers and Artistry in Wood. SFMOMA holds one of the world’s most distinguished collections of photography from Mexico. This presentation is part of an unprecedented statewide tour of works from SFMOMA’s renowned photography collection to communities throughout California. For twenty-five years, the Sonoma County Museum and the Sonoma County Woodworkers Association (SCWA) have collaborated in a major showcase of fine regional craftsmanship featuring many local artisans. www.sonomacountymuseum.org

MURAL MAKING AND PLACE MAKING

October 1, 7pm – Sonoma County Museum, 425 7th Street

Join us for the first in a series of informative presentations and discussions about how public art is shaping cities across the country … as we begin Santa Rosa’s public art master plan process. Public art consultant Todd Bressi, who is also the artistic coordinator for the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, will discuss how Mural Arts has built one of the world’s leading mural programs, while acting as an agent of change, one community at a time. Hula Hoop- “A New Spin on Fitness” (Ages 6-11) 1 day class. This reemerging art form mixes dance, play, coordination skills and movement. Custom hoops will be provided. No Experience necessary. 2 class dates: 10/1, Tuesday 4 to 5 p.m. ( Class # 69187) & 11/5, Tuesday 4 to 5 p.m. (Class # 69188) Class fee is $23

Hula Hoop- Dance Fitness Class- (Ages 18 +) 4 week class. Play, have fun and get fit…. this fun activity that many of us enjoyed as children is making a resurgence as an exciting dance form and fitness routine for adults.  Class will include warm up, instruction and end with rocking hoop jam to music. 10/1 to 10/22 Tues. 5:30- 6:30 p.m. (Class # 69184) 11/5 to 11/26 Tues. 5:30-6:30 p.m. (Class # 69185) Class fee is $46

Midnight at the Oasis- (Ages 18+) 6 week class. Embark on a “dance caravan”-learning dances from Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. No belly dancing experience or stomach-baring required. 10/16- 11/20 Weds. 10-11:30 a.m. (Class # 69193), 1/8- 2/12 Weds. 5:30- 6:30 p.m.(Class # 69191)  Class fee is $69

Flying Crane Qigong- (ages 18+) 6 week class. Utilize movement, breath and visualization to train one’s energy or Qi. This qigong class can be done sitting or standing and will increase flexibility, balance and stamina. 10/16- 11/20 Weds. 10-11:30 a.m. (Class# 69193), 1/8- 2/12 Weds. 10-11:30 a.m. (Class # 69194) Class fee is $73

 

Travel Lodge/Hotel Azura (635 Healdsburg Avenue)

The project has been scheduled for a Zoning Administrator meeting on Thursday, September 5, 2013, meeting at 10:30 am in Room 7 at City Hall.

The following applications are issued or in process for the referenced site:

             Building permit B12-4034 issued: Upgrade bathroom fixtures & finishes in all 44 rooms “Travelodge Downtown.” (Permit was extended to 10/7/13.)

             Design review application DR13-032 in process: Parking lot remodel with disabled access and new canopy. (This was submitted subsequent to a code case/stop work order.)

             Design review application DR13-036 in process: 1. Add roof to existing west stairway. 2. Providing stone veneer at columns and decorative clock. 3. Provide new roof at east stairway 4. Relocate existing pool, fire pit and 2 fabric cabanas and landscape area at exterior of pool area. Replace existing sign with new “Hotel Azura Boutique Hotel” sign. (There is also a sign permit application in process.)
