Prince Memorial Greenway and Julliard Park clean up for Earth Day on April 27th starting at 8:00am
My charity, Santa Rosa Utopia, is working with the city of Santa Rosa to put on a park clean up for Earth Day on April 27th starting at 8:00am. We will be starting at Julliard Park and clean both the park and the Prince Memorial Greenway.
There will be coffee served (donated by Starbucks) and the city’s Earth Day event downtown to follow. I hope to see a huge turnout. We had 55 people last year for Earth Day at Youth Park. I am hoping for 100 this year. Come out and socialize with your neighbors and help keep our city amazing! Bring comfortable shoes, work gloves and water. All cleaning supplies will be provided.
If you have any questions or want to RSVP you can email me at thegovmann@hotmail.com or through Facebook.

Got Gardening Skills? Catholic Charities Could Use Your Help
This past month Catholic Charities had a volunteer group put in raised garden beds and plant vegetables in the front yard of their Homeless Services Center. Both staff and clients are really excited about growing (and eating!) these veggies throughout the summer months. They are looking for a master gardener or local neighbor that might be able to help give them gardening advice. Their vision would be to coordinate some talks/workshops in the garden over the summer months for HSC residents, staff and even neighbors.

Join us for a screening of the critically acclaimed and award winning film, WASTE LAND! Filmed over nearly three years, WASTE LAND follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world’s largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band of “catadores”—self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. Muniz’s initial objective was to “paint” the catadores with garbage. However, his collaboration with these inspiring characters as they recreate photographic images of themselves out of garbage reveals both the dignity and despair of the catadores as they begin to re-imagine their lives. This film is more than just about “garbage”, it offers stirring evidence of the transformative power of art and the alchemy of the human spirit.
